Project Description

Porphyry setts

Natural surface, sheared sides, mixed colour.

Porphyry setts are used to pave squares, historical town centres, roads, footpaths, garden paths, pedestrian islands and much more; almost any context of urban design.
They are divided into irregular blocks where not all the edges or the faces are the same. They are laid using the common opposing arc procedure, and in procedures with a fixed measurement; they are generally laid in parallel rows. The larger setts are used for roads or generally where traffic is more intense. The smaller setts are normally used for flooring and pedestrian use. The setts can be laid with many variations: even if the most common procedure is that with opposing arcs, the concentric arcs procedure also guarantees an equally spectacular effect. They can also be laid in straight lines, with fan or peacock-tail patterns, as a spiral or with orthogonal square design; maybe even using porphyry of various colours.
